I’m watching the remake, which I find to be a good entertaining movie. The original one, however, was garbage. The Mini chase scene wasn’t even worth it.

Come at me bro!

What you really need to watch is Players, the 2012 Bollywood remake. the first half of the 2 hour , 45 minute movie is based on the first IJ and the second half is based on the Mark Wahlberg one.

Unfortunately, British cinema isn’t for everyone.

I like plenty of British stuff. That one sucked though.

It contains all the Bollywood staples. Bad physics, random English, song and dance numbers randomly inserted. Have a few drinks, then watch it. it’s great.

most movies at that time sucked. hard to make things the way they are without modern tech.

the original was shot in 1968, showed in 1969. The remake was made in 2002, shown in 2003.

thats a 34 year span between shooting and filming technology and techniques.

Not worth sitting through the rest of it.

My problem with the original was the story/plot/characters, or rather lack of.

The remake is super fun! My only real gripes with it have to do with the cars that they used. For one thing, the cars are so much bigger than the original Minis so they had to go to great lengths to try and make the driving hijinks appear on par with the 1969 movie.

But the scene that really bugs me is when they shoot out of the tunnel, and are clearly front-heavy, despite the fact that they’re supposed to be carrying a heavy load of gold in the back.

Yeah, it certainly has its flaws. Overall though, it’s a good fun movie.

It really is. Were I to choose which one to rewatch right now, I’d rather pop in the remake.

If I wanted to watch a bunch of Brits steal a fortune and get praised for it, I’d watch Zulu.

Counterpoint: Edward Norton is a terrible villain (No, AMX does not count)

They are two different movies, from very different times, very different countries, targeting very different audiences and made with two very different budgets...they just happen to share the same title.

Therefore, not actually comparable.

They are comparable in that one is a decent movie, and the other sucks.

I don’t have a problem with it, but I can see why one would. I thought he was a pretty good villain in The Score.

Actually, from my perspective, they both suck...the first one is heroically dated and the later one is just...nothing much.

I find the later one to be entertaining. It’s certainly no masterpiece.

One could argue that the first one had lots of (insanely good) driving by Rémy Julienne and his gang (who also did the stunts for Ronin, for example) whereas the remake... well.

The Italian Job (1968) is certainly no Citizen Kane. The intro with the Miura (and I don’t mean the tunnel part) is excellent, however.

If you want to see a nice film with proper plot and characters, even involving a proper Mini - may I suggest Goodbye Pork Pie.

Having said all that I am pretty certain you are mostly trolling, so... good show.

Not trolling per se, because I actually believe what I’m saying, but definitely stirring the crap :)

I agree that the driving stunts in the original are fantastic, but not good enough to warrant sitting through the rest of it.

I will give Goodbye Pork Pie a look.
